Made some necessary edits in copy to bring the website more up-to-date. I will be reviewing, changing, and deleting all of the broken external links soon.

12/31/2013

Switched to New Year theme. Be sure to watch the video below the lyrics. Lots of good shots of Peoria. Happy New Year!

12/25/2013

Merry Christmas from River Of Souls!

12/17/2013

Completed full lyrics listing with links for Captured Angel Discography page.

12/16/2013

Rest In Peace, Daniel. We miss you so.

12/13/2013

Completed work on final corrections for "D" section of Lyrics page. Began full lyrics listing with links for Captured Angel Discography page.

12/11/2013

Continued work on final corrections for "D" section of Lyrics page. Began and completed full lyrics listing with links for Souvenirs Discography page.

12/10/2013

Began work on final corrections for "D" section of Lyrics page. Began and completed full lyrics listing with links for Home Free Discography page.

12/04/2013

Added four new pictures to the new Photo Album.

12/01/2013

Added Photos Page 5 with two stunning large-scale versions of the Love In Time gatefold CD booklet cover, virginized.

11/29/2013

Switched to Christmas theme on main page.

11/28/2013

Happy Thanksgiving!

11/27/2013

Added a photograph of Dan from his high school yearbook to Photos Page 4. This picture was processed in Photoshop to reduce noise apparently caused by the use of textured paper. In any event, it looks better than the original, IMHO. The picture is full-sized; i.e., no link to a larger version. Added links to larger photographs to the Nederland photos page. Corrected more typos throughout the site. Reduced the volume of the river sound on main page to 25%. Fixed more dead Amazon links on the individual album pages under Discography. Changed the "Back To Albums" link on the Portrait pages to "Back To Discography" and removed the redundant Albums index page. All albums are now listed only on the Discography page. Changed incorrect font sizes for all album pages. The Discography project is now complete. Work will now continue on the Photos pages after Thanksgiving weekend. I am taking a well-deserved break after one solid month of updates. The Christmas theme will be up soon!

11/26/2013

Corrected numerous typos throughout the site. Added the Nederland photos page. Added another photograph of Dan from the Exiles era to Photos Page 4.

11/25/2013

Fixed the Amazon link on the Windows And Walls page under Discography. Added a link to the full lyrics and credits for the entire album (at the bottom of the page). Began work on Photos Page 4. So far, we have the centerfold shots by Andy Katz for Windows And Walls and Wild Places. Since it takes so long to prepare each photo for posting, I am presenting them to you as I go, rather than wait for the pages to be completed. That is the reason for the empty spaces. I can usually process about one scan per day. Some of the photos downloaded from the web are rather small. I will post larger versions of them if I can find out where they came from. So far, I have not had much luck. Expect the updates to the Photos pages to take a while to complete.

11/24/2013

Added links for the new Videos page to the "M" through "W" sections of the Lyrics page. That project is now complete. I am currently sorting through some new photographs to scan. The lyrics correction project will be put on hold until I finish uploading a page or two of photos and links to large scans suitable for printing. These will be coming from CD and LP liner notes, plus a few from songbooks. This is a time-consuming project, as many of the pictures require Photoshop retouching due to folds in the liner notes, printing artifacts, and occasional light inking by the printer.

11/23/2013

Added links for the new Videos page to the "G" through "L" sections of the Lyrics page. Added "Leader Of The Band" from a 2003 performance to the Videos page.

11/22/2013

Added links for the new Videos page to the "D," "E," and "F" sections of the Lyrics page.

11/21/2013

Added links for the new Videos page to the "A," "B," and "C" sections of the Lyrics page.

11/19/2013

Completed musical credits for the "A" section of the Lyrics page and all songs from Home Free (which are listed in the Discography). Removed the remaining dead links to Amazon throughout the site.

11/18/2013

Moved all music videos to the new Videos page. They're going to be live performances, and I'm going to throw some stuff in there you may not have heard before, like the one I posted today. Changed the lyrics and video on main page. Switched to Thanksgiving theme. Fixed dead links and added one feather and the background image to the All-Star Radio Network interview with Dan. You can listen to it HERE. Be prepared to turn the volume down on your computer if it is at the full setting.

11/17/2013

Corrected typos and formatting errors in the "B" and "C" sections of the Lyrics page. I will begin to add the rest of the notes and instrumentation credits as supplied in the album liner notes later today or tomorrow. These lyrics are now true to the original printed lyrics, including all word wrapping, either intended by the artist or due to column formatting restraints imposed by the jacket designer, and hopefully carried out properly by the printer. This issue has never been touched on in any interview with Dan that I know of. However, as a student of poetry in college, I know that wrapping and indentation is intentional by the writer and serves the purpose of expression, regardless of how many words fit in each column of an LP album jacket or CD lyrics booklet.

FYI: My relationship with Amazon was dissolved some time ago. In fact, not one CD was ever sold through my links, so it didn't make much sense to keep the links up anymore, since they were broken anyway due to Amazon revamping their system. I am removing the links as fast as I can. I've added new links to the Dan Fogelberg section of Amazon, just in case there are any new fans out there or fans who have never bought the CDs. I highly recommend buying the first six albums as imports from BGO due to their vastly superior digitally remastered and remixed sound quality. Everyone is hoping that a digitally remastered and remixed version of The Innocent Age will be released soon from either Sony or BGO. Since the only version of the CD available was mastered back in the stone age of digital sound, the mix leaves much to be desired. Because of this, I think that the LP still sounds better if you have a good, clean copy with no snap, crackle, and pop.

11/16/2013

Corrected typos and formatting errors in the "A" section of the Lyrics page. Added notes and instrumental credits as supplied in the album liner notes. These songs are now true to the original printed lyrics.

This isn't exactly "news." If anything, it's "old news," but it was news to me. I just received the BGO remastered import CDs of Dan's first six albums. They are packaged two to a set, so you get Home Free and Souvenirs in set 1, Captured Angel and Nether Lands in set 2, and Twin Sons and Phoenix in set 3. I already had these six CDs, but was never happy with the sound quality. In fact, I always believed that the LPs sounded better. But BGO has done a remarkable job of remastering these, and they are faithful to the original LP mixes, so it's a double treat. WELL WORTH THE MONEY, and they are an incredible deal at $15.49 per set at Amazon. The CDs come housed in a slipcase with photos, lyrics, and extensive new liner notes.

11/15/2013

Completed the Lyrics page. I will continue to spot check the LP and CD liner notes and lyrics booklets for errors and omissions. This may take a while. For example, adding the instrumentation credits for the musicians and co-writers, if any. It must be done by hand because none of the lyrics sites list them.

11/14/2013

Added two general news sources: Daily News America and The Huffington Post. Removed the rest of the dead links and outdated stories on the News page. Began and completed work on the "T" and "V" sections of the Lyrics page. Began work on the "W" section.

11/13/2013

Completed work on the "S" section of the Lyrics page. Added three new links to the News Page: This Day In Rock - Rock History, Today In Rock - Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, and Rolling Stone - LANDMARKS - Fueling The Connections Of Music History

11/12/2013

Continued work on the "S" section of the Lyrics page.

11/11/2013

Continued work on the "S" section of the Lyrics page. Happy Veterans Day to all of my fellow Vets!

11/10/2013

Began and completed work on the "P" section of the Lyrics page. Began work on the "R" section. Replaced two album cover images on Discography page with color-corrected versions to more accurately match the LPs. Removed "The Very Best Of Dan Fogelberg" from album list. Completed the "R" section of the Lyrics page. Began work on the "S" section.

11/09/2013

Completed work on the "O" section of the Lyrics page.

11/08/2013

Completed the "M" section of the Lyrics page. Began and completed work on the "N" section. Began work on the "O" section.

11/07/2013

Completed the "L" section of the Lyrics page. Began work on the "M" section.

11/06/2013

Continued work on the "L" section of the Lyrics page. Revised the "A" section.

11/05/2013

Began work on the "L" section of the Lyrics page.

11/04/2013

Completed the "H" section of the Lyrics page. Added a full concert YouTube video from 1974 in Jackson City, Mississippi. Until I fashion a Videos page, I have placed the video on the Articles and Interviews page with the video interviews. Began work on the "I" section of the Lyrics page. Completed the "I" section. Updated the Photos index page. Fixed dead Photos link on the Lyrics index page.

11/03/2013

Added "Diamonds To Dust," "A Growing Time," and "Beyond The Edge" to Lyrics page. Added new songs to all sections, completing up to and including the "G" section. Began work on the "H" section. Added eight YouTube video interviews to the Articles and Interviews page. Added six new photographs to the Photos page. Page 3 is now complete. All of the photographs I am adding were obtained from Google images, and may appear elsewhere on the web and in other Fogelberg web sites.

11/2/2013

Added formatting to "F" section of the Lyrics page. Reoriented justification to "center" in all columns. Corrected spelling typos. Finished "F" section. Began "G" section. Added a new article from Performing Songwriter magazine, circa 1995. Deleted articles leading to dead links that I had not copied over to ROS format. Finished "G" section of the Lyrics page. Updated all main pages (removed or revised Amazon code, fixed spelling errors, removed dead links, updated email address on Contact page). (Sub-pages pending.) Began research for the "H" section of the Lyrics page. Added "Come To The Harbor," "The Colors Of Eve," and "Days To Come" to the Lyrics page. Completed the new page for the Love In Time album and added its link to the Discography page.

11/1/2013

Fixed the "Democracy" lyrics page. Added ROS background and formatting to "Down The Road." Began "E" section of Lyrics page with "Empty Cages." Completed "E" section with "Exiles." I am in the process of completely revamping the Lyrics pages. I am removing the quotes, aligning the feathers left, adding a feather above the lyrics, adding formatting to the generic pages, removing the dead Amazon links, and disabling the autoplay feature of the river sound on all lyrics pages.

11/1/2013

Removed the Halloween pumpkins. Even though we are now in November, I will keep up the lyrics to "Old Tennessee" until Thanksgiving. It's such a great autumn song. Added a video of "Old Tennessee" from JMEagle101 below the Home page lyrics.

10/31/2013

Happy Halloween! Removed the dead links on the Links page, to sites that no longer exist.

10/29/2013

Implemented new Guestbook. You can now sign and read from the same link.

10/28/2013

Tweaked some code on the front page and changed the copy to read, "after more than FOUR decades." This was overdue for some time now. I am hoping to be more active on the web site again in the next few months as I approach retirement. In particular, I want to finish the lyrics section and add more photo scans, articles and interviews.

08/13/2013

Happy Birthday, Dan. Your spirit lives "Ever On" in Heaven, and resides in our hearts forever.

12/28/2009

Removed several dead links on the News page and fixed a few others.

12/27/2009

I would like to wish all of Dan's family, friends, and fans a (slightly belated) very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

11/26/2009

A very warm Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in Dan Land.

09/25/2009

When I got home from work today, there was a small package from Amazon on my doorstep. Could it be what I was hoping it would be? Sure enough, it was Dan's posthumous album, Love In Time. I've just listened to it for the first time, and I have to say that I am very pleased with the results of Dan's final work in the studio. Some of the songs remind me of material on Full Circle, but others remind me of his early work. I highly recommend this CD. Your Fogelberg collection just wouldn't be the same without it! Thanks, Dan, and thanks also to Jean for releasing it. (11-26-09) Also worth noting is the release of the River of Souls remastered CD, which joins the remastered CDs for The Wild Places, Exiles, and Dan Fogelberg Live: Greetings from the West. I just received The Wild Places and River of Souls from Amazon, and I can tell you that it was a worthwhile purchase. The sound is cleaner, clearer, and fuller, with a much richer bass spectrum and no harshness in the upper register.

12/31/2008

A very Happy New Year from River of Souls to all of Dan Land! May 2009 be a year of healthy change and renewed vigor for America!

12/30/2008

The counter returned to normal some time last week. I'm assuming that it took Motigo a few days to refresh its data base after the switch.

12/17/2008

The new counter reset itself today. It has done this twice before in the past. So, just add about 30,000 hits to what the counter says, to get the real number of souls who have journeyed down the river since November 9th, 2001.

12/17/2008

The Official Dan Fogelberg web site has a new look. It has been completely revamped by Dan's widow, Jean. It is at once poignant and touching. Please check it out at Dan's New Official Web Site!

12/17/2008

The Christmas graphics are back up.

12/16/2008

Installed Motigo Webstats page counter, which has superseded and replaced the old Nedstats counter. Count integrity has been maintained.

12/16/2008

It has been one year since Dan passed from this world into the next. We still miss you dearly, and Christmas will not be the same without you this year and every year. May God bless you, Dan, your family, friends, and fans worldwide. Also, a belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Dan Land. I now feel compelled to reintroduce the Holiday decorations, so look for them to appear in the next few days.

01/02/2008

I'm sorry, but it is not a very happy new year without the man who made all of this possible. There will be no fireworks, no special fonts, nor festive celebrations at the River of Souls this year. Rest in peace, Dan.

12/28/2007

The guest book is now unmoderated. You may post your memories and condolences freely, without having to wait for approval. So now, you can post a message and see how it looks immediately. Please, in this time of mourning for Dan fans everywhere, have some respect and do not post advertisements or derogatory statements.

12/24/2007

The Fogelberg community has my most sincere apologies for breaking the annual tradition here at River of Souls of adorning the main page with Christmas decorations and snowflakes. However, due to Dan's recent passing, it does not seem appropriate somehow to celebrate the more commercial aspects of Christmas this year without him with us. It is most certainly not "business as usual" in Dan Land, so out of respect for Dan's family (which includes his millions of fans), I have opted not to use the Christmas theme this year. It won't seem like Christmas without Dan here to celebrate it with us. The Christians among us (not discounting any other faith or religion) believe in eternal life after death because of the ultimate price that Jesus Christ paid for us on the cross. Since Dan now exists within the timelessness of eternity, he is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior. To those of us still living within the parameters of time and space, I would be remiss if I was not to wish you and your families (including your dear friends) a very Merry Christmas. May your love for each other and our Lord Jesus Christ bind you together in this time of loss and mourning. The Christmas theme will return next year. (For those of you who disagree with my decision, you may view last year's Christmas main page HERE.)

12/18/2007

I am still reeling from the news of Dan's passing. I could not even update the web site because I could not bring myself to believe that it was true. An uncounted number of tears later, I find myself typing the words that I know I must, through a veil of uncanny disbelief and a still-unending flood of tears. How can I express myself when I can't even grasp the reality of what has happened, during the time of year that Dan held most dear -- a time of the gathering of friends and family known as Christmas? Rest in peace, Dan. I know that you are already in the hands of God, and the angels are singing joyously at your appearance in their domain. My heart goes out to Dan's wife, mother, brothers, and all of his family, friends, and fans throughout Dan Land. You will live forever in our hearts, Dan, and you are now and forever A Living Legacy, for now you are truly alive, unfettered by your Earthly body, soaring high and free in God's eternal cosmos.

09/28/2007

Completely refurbished the entire news section (right). Fixed bad links, added new news sources, and re-arranged the listing order with a more logical flow - from conventional news sources to alternative news sources and political commentary.

08/13/2007

Happy Birthday, Daniel. How exciting it must have been for you as a young child to look up into the sky on a clear, starry Peoria night, and celebrate your birthday with the annual arrival of the Perseid meteor showers. It was as if God was announcing the birth of someone very special. I'm willing to bet that it's still just as special for you now as it was back then. I'm hoping that at least one night this weekend, mother nature will give you and your wife a clear view of the magic and the mystery of the Creator's grand palette.

07/04/2007

Happy Independence Day from the River of Souls!

07/03/2007

I have no new updates on Dan's condition. Of course, any news will break first at Dan's Official Web Site. You may continue to wish Dan your sentiments at The Living Legacy. Also, an update to the previous post: between the new job and other priorities in my analog life, my digital timetable has been moved back a bit. Please be patient and the Photos page updates will be coming soon. (However, I did have time to fix an alignment and spacing problem on the Lyrics page and to post a news article from The Nation, right.)

06/27/2007

The webmaster is proud to announce that he is finally settled in to the new house and that updates will resume shortly! Even better news: the old Epson Perfection 4870 Photo Scanner has been refurbished and is ready for action! This device produces scans that are far superior to the ailing HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One, which stopped scanning a few months ago. The LP collection and songbooks are at the ready for updates to the Photos section, coming soon!

06/13/2007

Well, after a harrowing drive down South right through the middle of Hurricane Barry a week ago (which somehow completely soaked the inside of the U-Haul truck through an unseen and unknown leak), your webmaster is settling into his new townhouse in Tampa, Florida, and expects to be back to work on the web site just as soon as he finds gainful employment! :) Kudos goes out to Brett Smith, webmaster of Ever On for notifying me of a couple of bad links on my Contact page. Links are now up-to-date! Thanks, Brett!!

05/27/2007

Y'all wish your webmaster well as he begins his new life (or resumes his old one) back home, "way down south" in sunny Florida! "Joy at the start... Fear in the journey... Joy at the coming home..." -DF

03/07/2007

Work has begun on the "D" section of the Lyrics page with the addition of "Dancing Shoes" today. Also added news story to News page, fixed the link to the Political Cartoon of the Day, and corrected posting date on "The Challenge to Illegal NSA Spying" story. Changed "Rock 'n' Roll Timeline" link to "Today in Rock History" and corrected letter case in link to "This Day in History".

02/07/2007

Added "Christ The King" to the "C" section of Lyrics page today. Now it really is complete! :)

01/28/2007

Completed "C" section of Lyrics page today. Also added news story from The Nation.com.

01/10/2007

Fixed vertical alignment problem on Photos index page on 01/10. Also removed New Year graphics from main page and added links to the Drudge Report and the ACLU to the News page.

12/29/2006

The webmaster of River Of Souls would like to wish all of Dan Land a very Happy New Year!

12/25/2006

BREAKING NEWS!!! SANTA CLAUS SIGHTING IN THE NORTHEASTERN USA!!! The webmaster has just spotted the fat, jolly fellow in red going back up his chimney! At approximately 2:00 AM Eastern Standard Time, yours truly saw the black boots of Santa and a dusting of magic powder fall into his fireplace in Frederick, MD, as the sounds of "Ho, Ho, Ho...!" joined by sleigh bells could be heard echoing away through the night! (He ate all of his cookies, too! Sorry, Garfield!)

12/24/2006

A very Merry Christmas from the webmaster of River Of Souls to one and all! (Don't forget to check out the Santa Tracker [World News, right] via the NORAD and USNORTHCOM facilities based inside Cheyenne Mountain near Colorado Springs!)

12/17/2006

Completed "B" section of Lyrics with "Bones In The Sky" on 12/16. Tweaked the color scheme of the Guestbook on 12/17. Webmaster is now on vacation in sunny Sarasota, Florida for nine glorious days!

12/15/2006

Added link to news article in the World News section today.

12/13/2006

Transcribed "Better Change" on 12/12 and added to the Lyrics section today. Fixed alignment problem in the columns of the Lyrics page.

12/11/2006

Completed transcribing two more songs in the "B" section of the Lyrics page over the weekend (12/08 and 12/09). Also posted better picture of Dan on Nether Lands page in Discography.

12/08/2006

BIG NEWS!!! Brett Smith's Dan Fogelberg web site, Ever On is back online!!! Brett's rich and varied collection of fogelberg rarities numbers in the hundreds of pages. It is colorful and creative. Click on the link above to get there.

12/08/2006

Substituted snow script on main page with falling leaves script on 12/07, using snowflakes instead of leaves. This allows the snowflakes to continue all the way to the bottom of the page. (For some reason, the snow script makes the snowflakes stop falling after a certain number of pixels have been reached.) Re-sized snowflakes to half of original pixels, and revised javascript to change total number of snowflakes on the screen at one time from 9 to 24. The snow is now much more robust. Added more Christmas graphics to main page on 12/07. Added "Believe In Me" to the Lyrics section on 12/06.

12/06/2006

Re-arranged order of photos on Photos pages 1 and 2 on 12/04. Completed two songs in the "B" section of the Lyrics page and posted links on 12/05 and 12/06. Posted news story and posted link to NORAD Santa Tracker on News page, and Christmas graphics and snowfall (this year using smaller snowflakes) on the main page, on 12/06.

12/03/2006

Completed "A" section of Lyrics Index and established links to individual "A" section Lyrics pages today. Also fixed links to Photos page on all Lyrics pages. The Lyrics pages will eventually be linked from the various Albums pages as well. Christmas theme coming soon!

12/02/2006

Added news item from The Nation.com today.

12/01/2006

Removed falling leaves and harvest graphics from main page on 11/30.

11/30/2006

Completed lyrics for "A Voice For Peace" and added link to the Lyrics page on 11/29. What appeared to be a scratch on the blue-tinted Nether Lands photo of Dan was actually a strand of hair that stood out, so I used the Dodge and Burn tools to subdue it and bring out the hairs around it.

11/29/2006

Processed and added another photograph of Dan to the Photos section on 11/28.

11/28/2006

Established links to new Lyrics section, still under construction. Re-ordered main link nest on all pages. Changed lyrics on main page to "Faces of America." Removed Thanksgiving greeting. Removed yellow and red falling leaves, leaving (absolutely no pun intended ;) just red-brown and brown. Posted news story from The Nation.com. Work continues on new Lyrics and Photos sections as time allows.

11/27/2006

Processed an old photograph of Dan at the Red Herring and posted on 11/26. Did quite a bit of touching up on this one. Scanner is still presenting problems so will continue posting other photographs already in my possession after processing in Photoshop.

11/25/2006

Scanned, processed, and posted another old black-and-white photo of Dan from the Complete Songbook, Vol. 1 on 11/22. Added Environmentalist news article same day. Work continues on new Lyrics section. Scanner is suddenly putting out bad images with a noticeable moire pattern. Will try to work a fix for this over the weekend.

11/22/2006

A very warm "Happy Thanksgiving" to Dan, Jean, their family and friends, and to Dan Fans everywhere. May your blessings be bountiful. . .

11/21/2006

Searched web site for out-of-date copy on 11/21 and made updates and corrections where necessary. Made size of falling leaves on main page smaller for quicker load times and more robust script response. Removed orange leaf from lineup and replaced it with a brown one. Added harvest graphics to main page title. Will most likely scan another photograph tonight and have it posted by tomorrow night. It will appear on page 2 of the new Photos section.

11/20/2006

Scanned another photograph from the Dan Fogelberg Complete Songbook, Vol. 1 on 11/19. Enhanced picture considerably (i.e. fixed printing defects and restored hue, contrast, and brightness ratios of printed photograph to the scan) using Photoshop. Completed work on Photos Index page on 11/20 and added "Back" and "Next" buttons to Photos pages for easy navigation. Will scan and process more photos when time permits.

11/19/2006

Updated copy on main page on 11/17/06. Changed colors of falling leaves on main page on 11/18/06. We now have red, orange, yellow, and reddish-brown (the original color) leaves. (The leaves will disappear soon and will be replaced by snowflakes and the Christmas theme.) Updated the World News section on 11/09, 11/16, and 11/18/06. Removed links to Tour Dates page. Work has begun on a Lyrics section. Will scan another photograph on Sunday and process in Photoshop. Will hopefully post by 11/20/06.

11/12/2006

Links to the new Photos page have been established. Scanned political cartoon from Washington Post on 11/09/06. Will continue to scan photos from my collection and add to the Photos page. Am also building a section that will consolidate all of the other photographs from the rest of the web site, all of which I have processed in Photoshop.

11/09/2006

The River of Souls web site celebrated its five-year anniversary today!

11/06/2006

The webmaster has returned to regular updates on the web site. Links are being established to the new "Photos" page. Expect more scans in the immediate future, but not during the election. Vote for change! Vote for accountability! Vote Democratic!

09/21/2006

The River of Souls has been on auto-pilot for some time, now. I should have set a reminder for myself in my calendar to remember Dan's birthday, but I missed it again this year. Dan was 55 on August 13, 2006. Massive apologies from the webmaster to Dan and his fans!

05/04/2006

The River of Souls Web Forum has been closed -- permanently.

04/27/2006

08/23/2005

Dan has posted some encouraging words on the News page of his Official Web Site concerning his condition. Dan's report is very good news for Dan Fans everywhere!

08/23/2005

A belated "Happy Birthday" to Dan the Man! Our favorite folky (that's folky, not funky) minstrel turned 54 on August 13, 2005. The webmaster apologizes for this momentary lapse of memory. Reason, however, will prevail...

The Forum has been closed until further notice.

11/07/2004

The backgrounds have been restored on all of the pages.

10/03/2004

The broken graphics links in the Guest Book have been fixed. The proper images are now being displayed for the background and separators.

08/17/2004

The 2004 Fall Acoustic Solo Tour has been cancelled. I quote from Dan's official web site:

"DanFogelberg.com regrets to announce the cancellation of the Fall 2004 Solo Acoustic Tour. Dan has been recently diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and has entered treatment. He apologizes for any inconvenience the cancellation of the concerts may cause his fans. Dan is confident he will be able to fight this illness. Your prayers, good wishes and positive thoughts will be very much appreciated."

Dan, we know that you will get through this. You're a fighter and a winner. You fought and won a similar battle when you had the accident aboard The Minstrel, and you're going to win this battle, too. Hang in there, Dan. This is a very treatable disease. Know that your friends and fans love and appreciate you very much, and we are praying for your quick recovery. May God keep your faith and spirit strong.

08/13/2004

A very happy birthday to Daniel Grayling Fogelberg! May this day bring you and yours many blessings...

The Environment page has a new look, as does the Native America page. Check them out!

04/28/2004

The Forum is down for maintenance, one day longer than anticipated. Standby... it should be back up soon... hopefully still in one piece!

04/27/2004

The 2004 tour dates have been posted at the Forum and on the Tour Dates page.

03/20/2004

The broken link to the 9-11 Memorial has been fixed. Since the LYCOS memorial has been moved or removed, the link now leads to the very tasteful CNN Memorial.

03/20/2004

There is still no word on tour dates. The fans with whom I have discussed this agree on three scenarios, in order of most likely, to least likely: 1) Dan will tour later in the year, starting in late Summer into Fall, as he did during his most recent solo acoustic tour in 2001. 2) Dan is skipping a year, something every artist is entitled to, especially as hard as he has worked in the last two years (touring with a band is much more rigorous than an acoustic solo tour). 3) Dan is retiring. We think this is the least likely sceneario. Come on, now... music runs through the man's veins, for crying out loud! He LOVES what he does for a living, and he will probably NEVER retire! After all, how can you retire from something that has completed your life... all of your life? But that is just my opinion. Just remember -- most successful actors, comedians, and musicians keep entertaining until they can physically no longer do so. I suspect Dan will be the same way.

03/20/2004

A link to "The Nation" has been added. How this fine publication escaped my notice until now, is beyond me! (Guess I need to hang out at Barnes and Noble more often!) The Nation is a bipartisan political commentary magazine in publication since 1865.

01/20/2004

The link to "This Day In History" has been fixed.

01/19/2004 (Updated 01/20/04)

The Forum is experiencing technical difficulties. It's not just our Forum; I can't get to any ezboard forum, as of approximately 10 PM tonight. Don't feel too bad if you can't read the posts... If it's any consolation, I was right in the middle of editing a post when it went down! When will ezboard be back up? Your guess is as good as mine, but if this continues, I will keep you posted as to the reason why, if ezboard has an explanation. (Update: the board is back up as of midnight, 01/20/04. Full steam ahead!)

01/01/2004

Happy New Year! Here's to wishing a happy and productive new year to Dan, Jean, and all Dan Fans everywhere!

11/02/2003

The lyrics on the main page have been changed to "Ghosts" for Halloween. Your webmaster got this idea two days late and two dollars short, but it was a valiant effort nonetheless!

10/31/2003

The River Of Souls Chat Room is officially open at the Forum! Come on in and join in the fun on any evening (Eastern time)! (Note: you must be a registered member of the ROS Forum in order to chat. This is to keep out the deadbeats and weirdos that seem to have permeated some of the DF boards in the past.

Also, all Halloween weekend, the News page will be occupied by... spirits! The background and sidebar have also been posterized in "Dark Side" fashion. (Note: for some reason, the spirits only like Internet Explorer... they seem to have something against Netscape and Safari! I guess there is no accounting for taste in the spirit world... ;-)

10/24/2003

The lyrics on the main page have been changed to "Old Tennessee" to match the season. Also, the final version of the new heading was implemented. The text no longer requires resizing and will display much more clearly now.

10/20/2003

The webmaster has designed a custom heading for the main page. It should display well in all browsers.

10/20/2003

Those of you who are regular ROS viewers may have noticed something interesting happening on the main page. As Autumn has set in, the colors have been gradually changing -- getting redder, browner, less green, and more yellow -- the colors of Fall. As the season progresses, the colors will continue to change, and hopefully, by Winter the webmaster will have found suitable snow graphics for the sidebar and background. As usual, expect to see some snowflakes falling during the week of Christmas to New Year. And yes, drinks WILL be served at the Riverside Forum on New Years Eve!

10/07/2003

All dead links on the Roots, Influences and Contemporaries page have been fixed. Also, all artists who now have official web sites have been updated, and the links have changed. So mosey on over to the Roots page and look up some of your other favorite artists. More than likely, they now have an official web site. This includes all former Beatles, whose official web sites were formerly links on the official Beatles web site.

10/04/2003

The webmaster has added a link on the Contact page to a QuickTime movie of his "Ever On" car after it was dug out from the big storm of 2003. You may also view it HERE. The sound of the river flowing has been disabled on this page to eliminate any audio conflicts with the movie.

10/04/2003

The webmaster has fixed the link to the American Indian Calendar of Native American Events on the News page. Some links to pages no longer available on the Related Links and Contact pages have also been removed. As a tribute to Todd, his Dan Fan appreciation web site is still listed, but is no longer online. All Dead links on the Environment and Native American pages have been fixed or removed as well.

09/30/2003

The webmaster has removed some more dead links on the News page.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAN! May this be a very special day for both you and your lovely wife Jean. Blessings to you, and thank you, Dan, for enriching our lives beyond measure with your magical gift from above...

07/17/2003 (updated 07/30/2003)

The webmaster has added two short interview clips from the video, "Dan Fogelberg Live: Greetings From The West," concerning the conception and production of the album The Wild Places, and Dan's thoughts on Native American spiritualism. You may view them on the Wild Places page. Another clip has been added to The Innocent Age page, with Dan's thoughts on writing the song, "Leader Of The Band." And on the Greatest Hits album page, I have added a clip concerning Dan's thoughts on the song, "Make Love Stay," which was based on a premise by author Tom Robbins in his book, Still Life With Woodpecker.

Cindy from Pittsburgh has sent in her Colorado review! You may read it HERE.

The Forum now opens in a new browser window. Hopefully, this will fix the re-direction problem after logging into the Forum from LANs running Windows NT 4.0/SP6 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0/SP1. The webmaster is unaware of any redirection problems in either Windows 98 2nd ed. or Windows XP. There seemed to be no problems at all on the Mac side, in either Explorer or Safari; regardless, the Forum now opens in a new window in ALL browsers and platforms, so there is no reason to test Navigator or Mozilla. A lot of people log into the Forum at work, through the web site, and nine times out of ten, they're running Windows NT 4.0/SP6. The root of this problem lies in Register.com's redirection system, which allows the site to always be displayed as riverofsouls.net. This was ok until you went to the Forum and logged in. The only way to solve the problem was to force the link to open in a new window. It's actually more convenient to go back and forth with two windows open. Try it, you'll like it!

07/05/2003

And so, another tour ends, all too quickly for most (all of Dan's fans), and none too soon for others (like the road crew). Some fans were happy, some were sad. Some were glad, and some were mad. But all in all, a good time was had by both big and small, and we all seemed to be a little richer for it. I know I had a good time! Thanks again, Dan. As one of your biggest fans would say, "you're a class act."

06/27/2003 (revised 7/5/03)

The webmaster has removed all of the expired MSNBC links from the News page, making load times for dial-up ISP users much quicker. Also, there are no more links that lead to the promulgation of massive numbers of pop-up ads. Hopefully, the River Of Souls is now a "pop-up-free" zone! (With the one exception of the LoveEarth Network... a small price to pay for the wealth of content contained in their pages.)

06/23/2003

The webmaster has resumed regular updates on World News, with the latest developments on the environmental front and U.S. Politics. I apologize for the lapse in updates. (In case you haven't noticed, the webmaster is a Democrat. Oh, by the way, Dan is too!) "Vote Democratic! Anyone other than George Walker Busche for President in 2003!" I apologize to any of Dan's Republican fans in advance! :-)

New reviews by Cindy, and photographs by Christian Kuschel and Jeff Kirk have been posted on the Reviews page. Also, a new page has been added to the Albums section: Full Circle.

05/31/2003

The webmaster just returned home from the Wolf Trap Filene Center in Vienna, VA, for the opening show of Dan's 2003 U.S. tour! If you've never been to this marvelous venue, definitely put it on your list on your next trip to Virginia or Washington, D.C. The sound check is simply incredible! The set list has been posted on the Tour Dates page. Here is the first review for the 2003 tour, submitted by yours truly: Reviews

04/28/2003

Dan finally has an official web site! Check out Dan Fogelberg.com!

04/07/2003

BIG NEWS!!! We now have the name and release date for Dan's new studio album!!! The title of the new album is "Full Circle," and it will be released on May 20th! Are you as excited as I am? Waaaaaaaaaa-hoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the official announcement, which the webmaster received today from Laurie at HK Management:

"Dan Fogelberg will be releasing a brand new studio record on May 20, 2003, called Full Circle. The new CD, which he also produced, contains 11 new songs, one of which is an instrumental. All but two were written by Fogelberg. Fogelberg will be on tour with his band throughout the U.S. this summer."

03/25/2003 (Revised)

Dan has another new "best of" album out. (Yes, another one.) The title is "The Essential Dan Fogelberg." However, it would seem that the CD has not made it into record stores yet, and nobody knows when it's supposed to ship. Still no news on the release date of the new studio album.

03/25/2003

New tour dates continue to roll in! You may check the growing list of tour dates here.

03/20/2003

Tour dates have been posted on the Tour Dates page. Not all of these dates have been confirmed. Laurie at HK Mangagement has told me that she will have the official tour dates soon. Stay tuned to the River Of Souls for a complete summer tour schedule! Also, we are expecting an official release date for Dan's new studio album soon!

01/03/2003

Still no word from HK Management about the release date of Dan's new studio album. Dan has stated that this album will be a "return to form," with the same kind of material that he wrote in the 1970s. I think I can safely say that most, if not all, of Dan's fans are anxiously awaiting this first release of new studio recordings since the early 1990s. I think this one will be a classic right out of the gate! Expect a release date somewhere in the late Spring of 2003, to coincide with the Summer 2003 tour. Stay tuned to the River Of Souls for more details and an official release date!

08/13/2002

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAN! Our favorite singer-songwriter is 51 years young this day. May it be full of special moments and memories of years gone by... You may wish Dan a Happy Birthday HERE.

08/09/2002

Dan will be performing a benefit concert at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine on Saturday, August 17, 2002. The benefit is for Chellie Pingree for Senate. Dan will be peforming a solo acoutic set, and there will also be four other local acts on the bill: Referendum, Cindy Bullens, David Mallett, and Gordon Bok. Click HERE for more information and HERE to buy tickets.

05/17/2002

Dan has announced that his new studio album will probably not be in stores until summer or fall 2002 (at the earliest -- perhaps even as late as next year). As he said, he "just ran out of time." According to Dan, the songs on this album are "a return to form," to the kind of songs he wrote in the 1970s and '80s. You can hear all about it HERE, in an All Star Radio Network interview by Rik Anthony of G-Force Management! Thanks, Rik!

03/22/2002

Vote to have Dan inducted into the Red Rocks Hall of Fame HERE!

03/04/2002

The names of the band members that will be backing up Dan on this year's tour have been released: Mark Andes (bass), Michael Hanna (keyboards), Robert McEntee (acoustic and electric guitars, vocals), and Joe Vitale (drums, flute)!

02/27/2002

The Summer 2002 tour dates are HERE!

01/30/2002

I recently asked Laurie at HK Management a few questions, and here are her answers:

1) How soon do you think you will have tour dates?

HK: Whenever they are confirmed. I don't get them until that time.

2) Will there be more than one leg to this year's tour?

HK: I don't know.

3) Do you have a title or release date yet for Dan's new album?

HK: No.

01/28/2002

(Updated) Dan will perform in Vail, Colorado for the Olympic Torch ceremonies there on Friday, Feb. 1st, 2002. Featured entertainment for the evening includes...singer Dan Fogelberg singing "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler." "It has a chorus that says something about 'let it shine, let it shine,' and we thought that would go along with the 'Light the Fire Within' theme the Olympic folks have going," said Vail town attorney, Matt Muir. For more information, visit the town of Vail homepage. Thanks to Todd at DanFogelbergFans.com and Brett at Ever On for that news tip!

"Dan will be performing one song on Friday at Slifer Plaza in Vail Village. It is free."

Martin Guitar company announces the D-41DF Dan Fogelberg Signature Edition guitar!

07/28/2001

The Along The Road tour for 2001 was a resounding success, and left fans satisfied but wanting more! Hopefully, next year's tour will be longer, in anticipation of a new studio album with a tentative release date sometime in the summer or fall of 2002. Stay tuned!

07/13/2001 (Updated 6/22/02)

At the 2001 concert in Denver, CO, Dan announced that he had a new studio album coming out, with a tentative release date of Spring 2002 (this date has now been pushed back to summer or autumn, 2002). At that concert, he played a new song that he said might be on the new album, a beautiful number called "Reason to Run." We have waited a long time for an album like Wild Places and River Of Souls (nine years, to be exact), so a studio album of new songs is being highly anticipated by fans. Dan says that this new album is a "return to form," with songs like he wrote in the 1970s and '80s. I expect this album to be highly guitar-driven with some blues elements and perhaps a live number thrown in for good measure. (update: Can't win 'em all!) I also expect it to be topical, due to the current political state of affairs we find ourselves in (well, at least the environment qualifies, even though Dan didn't go near the war with Iraq -- probably a smart choice due to the political climate we find ourselves in NOW). And I wouldn't be surprised if Dan includes a cover of "If I Needed Someone" or another of George Harrison's songs on the album, as a tribute to this quiet, peace-loving ex-beatle, who was a musical and spiritual leader to so many Beatles fans (update: oh, well... you can't have everything). Check back here often for more details and an official album release date!

LONDON (Reuters) - Pink Floyd keyboard player and founding member Richard Wright died on Monday after a short battle with cancer, his spokesman said. He was 65. Wright, singer, songwriter and guitarist Syd Barrett, guitarist Roger Waters and drummer Nick Mason founded the band that became Pink Floyd in the 1960s when they were students. Pink Floyd went on to become one of the biggest names in rock. "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness, that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer," his spokesman said in a statement. "The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time." Wright co-wrote five songs on "Dark Side of the Moon," which was released in 1973, spent 14 years on the Billboard 200 album chart and is one of the best selling albums ever. Wright left Pink Floyd after falling out with Waters during sessions for "The Wall." He rejoined the band in 1987. (Reporting by David Clarke; Editing by Kevin Liffey) River of Souls joins the rock 'n roll community in mourning Richard's passing.

Twenty-five years ago today we lost a legend in his own time. Besides forming a teenage band in Liverpool that would eventually become the greatest rock and roll band in history, John Lennon was a unique visionary in his song-writing, his art, and his poetry. Rest in peace, John. We love you and miss you very much. Thank you for many wonderful years of great music -- the memories of which are forever etched in our minds and souls.

"Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait -- and love one another."

-George Harrison

Read all about George Harrison's life

All things -- and people -- must pass. One of rock's legends, former Beatle George Harrison passed from this life to the next on Thursday, November 29, 2001, at approximately 1:30PM Pacific Time. He died at a friend's home in Los Angeles, CA, with his wife, Olivia, and son, Dhani, at his side. The most spiritual of the Beatles, also known as the "quiet" Beatle, George was only 58 years old when he passed on. Rest in peace, George... we love you and miss you dearly. May we all learn the art of dying as well as you.

"Yes, we suffer pain, we become ill, we die. But we also hope, laugh, celebrate; we know the joy of caring for one another; often we are healed and we recover by many means. We do not have to pursue the flattening-out of human experience. I invite all to shift their gaze, their thoughts, from worrying about health care to cultivating the art of living. And, today with equal importance, the art of suffering, the art of dying."
