Photographs

Here are some more photos of Dan that I have scanned from songbooks and LPs that I own. I've also added some photos that I obtained by doing a search on Google Images. Click on a picture where indicated (where the gloved pointing hand appears) to see a larger photograph.

Photography by Emerson Loew
Here's a great, early black and white shot of Dan in the "old wooden chair" from the Dan Fogelberg Complete Songbook, Vol. 1. Scan survived despite a noticeable moire pattern. To deal with that, I darkened the background, which really brought out the dramatic difference in light and shadow, almost to the point of being posterized.

Photography by Andy Katz
This is a classic shot of Dan by legendary Boulder photographer Andy Katz that captures the essence of the moment both in front of and behind the lens: two artists on a creative upswing on their way to the peak of their careers.
Started with the original washed-out picture from the Nether Lands page in Albums and darkened and lightened shadows, mid-tones, and highlights in Photoshop to produce this superior picture, no doubt much closer to the original photograph. Look closely at the use of light and shadow by the photographer. Like the guitar style of the musician, the visual artist took the "less is more" route, here. It's what you don't see that makes the picture. As Dan says of his playing, "it's sparse." An excellent candidate for posterization. What appeared to be a scratch on the photo was just a strand of hairs that stood out. See News page for fix info.
