Rest In Peace
A Living Legacy
Forever In Our Hearts

What is it about the artistry of Dan Fogelberg that it has stood the test of time to remain vibrant and affecting after so many decades? Could it be because the words and music of Mr. Fogelberg so captivate the listener that you become literally drawn into another world? But it's not just the beautiful and finely skilled tones that he emits from his guitar, piano, and vocal chords that sweeps you away into musical nirvana. It's not just the profound observations and lessons of life and love he gives us in his lyrics that lift you up and catapult you into another level emotionally and spiritually. It's something that transcends words and music. It even transcends analysis. It's something magical. It brings you a little closer to the mystery. And it's something that touches the very souls of those who are receptive to the workings of the magic and the mystery.

I take my place along the shore
And I wait for the tide
It seems I've passed this way before
In an earlier time

I hear a voice, like mystery
Blowing warm through the night
The silent moon embraces me
And I'm drawn to her light

I follow footprints in the sand
To a circle of stone
And find a fire burning bright
Though I came here alone

And in the play of shadows cast
I can dimly discern
The shapes of all who've gone before
Calling me to return

Chorus:
There are no names
That fit these faces
There are no lines that can define
These ancient spaces
The spirits dance
Across the ages
And melt into a river of souls

(Refrain espagnole)
żLo que es mio? [What is mine?]
żLo que es de Dios? [What is God's?]
żLo que es del rio? [What is the river's?]
Melt into a river of souls

I take my place along the shore
And I wait for the tide
It seems I've passed this way before
In an earlier time

To every man the mystery
Sings a different song
He fills his page of history
Dreams his dreams
And is gone

Chorus:
There are no names
That fit these faces
There are no lines that can define
These ancient spaces
The spirits dance
Across the ages
And melt into a river of souls

(Refrain espagnole)
żLo que es mio? [What is mine?]
żLo que es de Dios? [What is God's?]
żLo que es del rio? [What is the river's?]
Melt into a river of souls

NOTE: this is not Dan Fogelberg's official web site, and is not officially endorsed by either Dan or his management. It meets certain criteria set forth by HK Management, and Dan did give an oral endorsement to all of his fan appreciation websites in a recent radio interview which you can listen to on this web site via the News page. Opinions expressed here do not necessarily reflect those of Dan or HK. This is a not-for-hire and non-profit venture. I receive no compensation of any kind for maintaining this web site. It is my humble gift to the fans of Dan Land. My payment is the pleasure you derive by perusing these pages. Dan Fogelberg passed away on Dec. 16, 2007, after fighting a three year-long battle with prostate cancer. See Dan's official site for the latest updates. Your prayers, wishes and tributes to Dan might best be voiced at The Living Legacy.

NOTE: Most links to pages on external web sites open in a new browser window. If you already have two or more browser windows open, the link may open in one of those other open (and perhaps hidden) windows. Both Mac and Windows users should be able to set preferences for your browsers to open links in tabs automatically.

I have a very deep respect for Dan and the enormous scope of his talents and accomplishments. He has certified gold, platinum, double-platinum, and triple-platinum albums to his credit. What you will find in these pages is Dan's music, what the music means (sometimes in his own words, and sometimes in mine and others), and a personal love for the music that goes beyond mere words. As a singer-songwriter myself, Dan was my second-biggest influence after Gordon Lightfoot. Some of my comments will attempt to give you a perspective on Dan's music from a musician's point-of-view. One thing I planned from the very start was to differentiate River Of Souls from other Fogelberg websites. For example, I have provided insights into Dan's beliefs and interests, such as the Native American page, The Environmental page, and the Roots, Influences, and Contemporaries page. I hope that these additions give you a glimpse inside the soul of the man who was Dan Fogelberg.

One of the last photographs of Dan ever taken. This picture was taken by Dan's wife, Jean, and accompanied the announcement of Dan's passing on his official web site. We miss you, Dan.

Come along with me now, as I present to you for review in these pages, the quite impressive list of credits to a man -- a "Living Legacy" to the "Leader of the Band," as he is known -- now many decades since Dan Fogelberg's debut album, "Home Free" was first issued on 12" polyvinyl discs known as "LPs" (for "Long Play" records). Hop on board the boat and float down the river with me . . .
